The peer review section of this issue features two articles related to strategies to enhance the success of those contemplating or enrolled in a doctoral program. An article by Dr Laura Taylor, Dr Mary Terhaar, Dr Hayley Mark, and Dr Angela McNelis describes a structured program to guide master’s prepared nurses in deciding on doctoral education and in the process of applying to a program. An article by Dr Keville Fredickson and Dr Donna Nickitas describes a peer mentoring program developed for first year doctoral students to enhance the success of these students as well as to engage both mentors and mentees with interactions with students at other levels of the program. Elsewhere in the journal doctoral students from a range of different countries present insights into their learning journeys....

This edition of the journal focuses on the many uses of social networking in nursing doctoral education, with particular emphasis on the role of technology and the internet. In the peer-reviewed section Darina Petrovsky examines the role of social media in the lives of PhD students, giving overview of social media platforms. Dr Beth Fahlberg then explains how social media can be leveraged to facilitate recruitment and dissemination in doctoral research. Finally Dr Caleb Ferguson, Dr Calvin Moorley and Professor Debra Jackson make the case for all doctoral students having a Twitter account. Elsewhere in the journal doctoral students from a range of different countries present insights into their learning journays, including some focus on social media....

This edition of the journal highlights different aspects of academic experience. In the peer-reviewed section Professor M. R. Venkatasalu explores some practical difficulties experienced within the doctoral supervision process and shares some possible strategies that can assist supervisors, reduce student attrition, and increase rates of doctoral completion. The second publication is a reflective journey written by Dr Grace W.K. Ho describing the author’s experience of becoming a nursing academic in the US.
