When meaningful recognition occurs in organizations, nurses are acknowledged and appreciated for their contributions. It sends a powerful message that they're valued, which is a key component of a healthy and productive work environment, according to Kaufman and colleagues. Moreover, evidence has shown that recognition is the most significant driver of employee engagement. In addition, Lefton states that meaningful recognition involves “acknowledging one's behaviors and the impact these actions had on others, ensuring the feedback is relevant to the recognized situation, and is equal to the person's contribution.” Meaningful recognition is highly personal, acknowledging how specific behaviors impact the practice environment and patient interactions.
