Objective: The purpose of this integrative review is to investigate the effect of an esmolol infusion on perioperative opioid use and postoperative pain scores.
Methods: Articles published between 2012 and 2020 were examined and reviewed for quality, strength and relevance to the topic.
Results: Evidence suggests that an intraoperative esmolol infusion can decrease intraoperative and postoperative opioid consumption, as well as decrease postoperative pain scores.
