During the initial wave of COVID-19, healthcare leaders struggled to make sense of the chaos and furloughed nurses due to low patient volumes. However, a hospital in Texas took a stance against furloughs and reassigned nurses to “answer” the call to action by launching a community COVID-19 nurse phone line. Late Breaking Reason: The innovation and employee-centered actions taken by hospital leadership during the COVID-19 Pandemic truly exemplified the AACN Healthy Work Environment Standards. As a result of the creation of COVID-designated nurse triage line, thousands of individuals were supported in the community, while nurse roles were preserved and enhanced.
