In the absence of a cure for HIV/AIDS, prevention remains an effective strategy to eliminate the pandemic. Abstinence from sexual intercourse is the primary prevention strategy advocated for unmarried youths. Religious and traditional belief practices, positive attitude and poverty were identified as some factors responsible for sexual abstinence and non-abstinence.
