Abstract
This qualitative, descriptive phenomenological study was conducted to determine the actual lived experiences of male partners of women who have previously been diagnosed with postpartum depression. The study also explored the knowledge level of male partners with regard to the phenomenon of postpartum depression. While experiences were varied, three common themes emerged of being vulnerable, being helpless, and coping with two to four sub-themes identified under each one. The seven men who participated demonstrated gaps in the knowledge with regard to the phenomenon of postpartum depression.
