<p>This edition of the journal explores issues in distance and in blended learning for doctoral nursing education. In the first peer-reviewed paper Drs. N.C. Sharts-Hopko and M.L. Fitzpatrick review the history and their overall experience of using distance education as a primary mode of content delivery for a research-focused doctoral nursing program. In the second, Drs. P. Aselton, J. Demartinis, and R. LeBlanc discuss the challenges and opportunities in preparing clinical scholars in an online Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. Also in this issue, three doctoral nursing students from the US, China and the Philippines share experiences of their respective learning journeys. Finally three STTI/INDEN Fellowship reports are presented.</p>

<p>This edition of the journal highlights different aspects of academic experience. In the peer-reviewed section Professor M. R. Venkatasalu explores some practical difficulties experienced within the doctoral supervision process and shares some possible strategies that can assist supervisors, reduce student attrition, and increase rates of doctoral completion. The second publication is a reflective journey written by Dr Grace W.K. Ho describing the author’s experience of becoming a nursing academic in the US. Also in this issue, three student perspectives by doctoral nursing students from the Philippines and Brunei Darussalam highlight current dissertation projects.</p>

<p>This edition of the journal continues to explore key issues in nursing doctoral education and showcase its diversity. In the peer-reviewed section Professor Sonja McIlfatrick highlights the key steps in the grant writing process, explaining common pitfalls, perils and pearls. Thereafter all the accepted abstracts for oral and poster presentations at the 2015 biennial INDEN conference are made available. Elsewhere in the journal six doctoral student perspectives are presented, spanning a range of different countries and learning journeys.</p>

<p>This edition of the journal shows the many variations and richness of experiences in doctoral programs from various countries. In the peer-reviewed section, Drs Waxman, Maxworthy and Barter describe how one school developed a Doctor of Nursing Practice program and how they addressed issues related to the final project of this type of professional or clinical doctoral degree program. Dr Linda Scott and colleagues from INDEN then reflect on the organisation’s most recent conference and the potential role of INDEN in providing leadership for the further development of doctoral education in nursing around the globe. Elsewhere in the journal there is further coverage of conference experiences and doctoral students from a range of different countries present insights into their learning journeys.</p>

<p>The peer review section of this issue features two articles related to strategies to enhance the success of those contemplating or enrolled in a doctoral program. An article by Dr Laura Taylor, Dr Mary Terhaar, Dr Hayley Mark, and Dr Angela McNelis describes a structured program to guide master’s prepared nurses in deciding on doctoral education and in the process of applying to a program. An article by Dr Keville Fredickson and Dr Donna Nickitas describes a peer mentoring program developed for first year doctoral students to enhance the success of these students as well as to engage both mentors and mentees with interactions with students at other levels of the program. Elsewhere in the journal doctoral students from a range of different countries present insights into their learning journeys.</p>
