Current Learning Management Systems (LMS) do not necessarily lend themselves to Next Generation NCLEX (NGN) item formats. While these barriers are not easily remedied, we have developed and are implementing creative ways to integrate the clinical judgment style questions by utilizing the formats supported by our LMS. Join us as we discuss how to optimize you LMS for NGN content.

Learning Outcomes:

- Demonstrate clinical judgement test items without NCSBN formatting

- Illustrate the formatting of multiple LMS with various NGN style questions

- Identify ways to increase critical thinking without extra preparatory materials

Simulation activities will be discussed within the framework of Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best PracticeTM including formative assessment strategies using NGN-style activities. Topic areas include pre-briefing (preparation and briefing activities), debriefing, and incorporating free virtual simulation products into the classroom.

Learning Outcomes:

- Describe best practices for integrating formative NGN-style activities into prebriefing (preparation & briefing) for screen-based simulation

- Demonstrate methods to integrate simulation-based simulation into the traditional classroom with formative assessment strategies using NGN-style questions

- Discuss the integration of NGN-style prompts into debriefing for screen-based simulation experiences

This presentation will describe the authors’ transition from static to unfolding multi-patient case studies that incorporate the knowledge students gain from theory courses and integrate it into their application-based lab curriculum.

Learning Outcomes:

- Describe integration of unfolding case studies and lab curriculum

- Map the next phase of an unfolding case study to a current lab scenario

In preparation for the Next Generation NCLEX (NGN), this workshop will explore strategic pathways of clinical nursing judgment measurement model (CNJMM) item writing, test construction, and blueprinting for student evaluation. It will begin with creating case studies that align with the course of study and then introduce items using NGN technology.

Learning Outcomes:

- Identify the technology/item types that will be tested on the Next Generation NCLEX®

- Develop each of the identified Next Generation items using simplified approach

- Clarify the Next Generation Scoring rules

This presentation will provide the participants with an introduction to the Next Generation NCLEX as they begin to development writing skills to create and/or modify practice materials for students. In this first presentation of the webinar series, we will discuss the overall development of NGN and provide a comparison to the current NCLEX. We present an overview of the Clinical Judgement Model (NCSBN) which is the basis for NGN, as well as provide examples of how NGN practice can be integrated throughout the undergraduate nursing curriculum.

Learning Outcomes:

- Participants will be able to distinguish between the current NCLEX format and the NGN format

- Participants will be able to recall what the clinical judgement model is

Audience: Faculty
